Last week we held an online focus group with 101 students and 17 other participants (project managers, teachers and stakeholders) from Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. Organized by Glocal Factory and led by Elena Romanini, the purpose of the focus group was to collected experiences from students that participated in the project activities in the previous months (#itsworng initiative and classroom’s discussion). The students presented the work that they have done.
After the presentations, through using a word cloud, we have collected the students’ ideas of recommendations for policy makers for dealing with hate speech. The students had a variety of thoughts about this issue and were really engaged.
At the end off the event, we held an evaluation of the whole work package, which showed that the students were sad, frustrated and disappointed while researching hate speech, but they felt empowered, proud and helpful when they implemented the campaign. This showed that the students have the desire and motivation to act and help create an inclusive society.
The project UNITED is implemented by the Nansen Dialogue Centre (Croatia) in partnership with the Technical school and Natural Sciences School Ruđer Bošković Osijek (Croatia), Glocal Factory (Italy), IIS “Ferraris Fermi” (Italy), Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor (Slovenia) and WCIES (Poland) and is funded by the European Union through the CERV program.
